Hey guys, apologies for the hiatus, its been a busy winter, with work and moving house. One thing that I have not neglected during this period is my skincare routine. Its been a while since we talked skincare on here and I felt now would be the right time to give you an update on what my current go to products are, as well as to talk about some products that I have been sent to try out. When it comes to skincare, there’s no point in trying a product for a week and deciding its no good for you, the only way to make sure a product is or isn’t for you is by testing it over a more significant period. I usually go with the rule of try for a month and then make a decision on what my feelings are.
Aesop is an Australian Skincare Brand that were founded in 1987 and pride themselves on formulating the finest skin, hair and body products. All of Aesop’s products are Cruelty Free and all of their skincare products are fully Vegan friendly. For those of you that haven’t come across the brand before, one of the first things you will notice is their product design which is super clean and extremely pleasing on the eye. I didn’t actually try any of their products until last year, but now I have 2 staples in the house, one being their Parsley Seed Facial Cleanser which I use daily in order to remove any impurities on my skin after long day’s working in the City. The other mainstay I use from Aesop is their Reverance Aromatique Hand Wash which cleanses and exfoliates the hands, leaving them feeling smooth and smelling fresh. The exfoliation in this hand wash comes from finely milled pumice, and the top fragrant notes are Vetiver Root, Petitgrind and Bergamot Rind which leave a lasting unisex scent.
Aesop have shops around the UK and if you haven’t yet visited one, then I would urge you to pop in, test some products with the help of their dedicated staff and also revel in the stunning designs of each of their shops.
If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that I have been a fan of Kiehl’s for a long time. My all-time favourite moisturiser is their Ultra Facial Cream with SPF. I’m a fan of a thicker moisturiser and this one ticks all the boxes, you don’t need a lot, and it goes a long way and it has a built in SPF which to me is a must for an everyday moisturiser. As well as keeping the whole face moisturised, it’s essential that we look after the delicate skin around our eyes. I have the Kiehl’s Age Defender Eye Cream and I’m the first one to admit that I don’t use it as often as I should. This cream helps to reduce lines around the eyes and also helps to reduce any dark circles that may appear, due to lack of sleep.
A few weeks ago, I was invited into Kiehl’s in Glasgow for the Press Launch of the first ever Kiehl’s x AONO UK Barbershop and as well as getting a trim, I also received a skin consultation and was recommended to try the Age Defender Cleanser (GIFTED) which is a 2 in 1 products as it acts as a Cleaners/Exfoliator and as a Masque which I am hoping helps to reduce the blackhead effect. Don’t get me wrong I don’t get massive obvious ones but being human I always notice little blemishes on my skin and always want a way of hopefully minimising them and this cleanser seems to be doing the job so far. Another flaw I find with my skin is that it can get quite shiny after a long day/night, and to help combat this I was recommended Kiehl’s Rare Earth Pore Minimizing Lotion (GIFTED) which you put on after moisturiser and it gives a matt effect to the skin, thus minimizing the shine.
Kiehl’s have a product for everyone, no matter what your skin type and their staff are super knowledgeable and helpful, to find out where your nearest store is click here.
Scottish Fine Soaps
A Scottish brand that I love is Scottish Fine Soaps who have just released their new men’s Vetiver & Sandalwood collection. The brand pride themselves on being a family owned business who manufacture 99.5% of their products from their site in Central Scotland. All of their products are made with naturally derived ingredients and contain NO Parabens or Microbeads. They only use Palm Oil Derivatives sourced from Certified Roundtable suppliers and they DO NOT test on animals.
I previously used their Men’s Thistle & Black Pepper collection and really liked the Hair & Body wash and the Facial Wash. The products smelled brilliantly masculine and didn’t dry my skin out like some shower products do. These two products left my skin feeling refreshed a revitalised and when I was given the chance to try two products from their new men’s Vetiver & Sandalwood collection, I jumped on it. The two products I chose were the Hair & Body Wash and the Pre-Shave Scrub. As I tend to use a specific shampoo, I used the wash for my body only and found that as well as being a good skin cleanser it also perked my skin up and helped me to feel energised, probably due to the magnesium included in the ingredients. As for the Pre-Shave Scrub, I don’t tend to clean shave these days but this scrub can also be used as a facial scrub alone. Charcoal based scrubs are some of my favourites and this one didn’t let me down, the scrub is super exfoliating and the Vitamin E helps to soften the skin, so as well as being super cleansed you also get super soft skin alongside a lovely masculine scent.
I would recommend any of Scottish Fine Soaps Men’s products as well as their hand wash and lotions which come in a variety of scents. I love a Scottish Brand and Scottish Fine Soaps are one of my skincare favourites that I will continue to use and support.
*The Vetiver & Sandalwood products were gifted to me to trial by Scottish Fine Soaps. All thoughts on these products are my own.
Black Leopard Men’s Skincare Range
Another newcomer to the men’s skincare scene is Black Leopard Skincare which hails from Australia and is designed by men, for men. In the past few years a lot of male skincare products have described themselves as for men, from men which for me is a bit of a no, no simply because not all men have the same skin type and a lot of these products are aimed at men with oily skin. Black Leopard have bucked this trend by using ingredient’s suitable for all skin types including aloe-vera, which helps to soothe skin.
The Black Leopard Range consists mainly of skincare products, but does also include a hair styling cream. I’ve been trying the products for a while now and my favourite product from the range is the face scrub which includes black rice particles to give a great exfoliation and the aloe-vera in the product is soothing on my normal/combination skin type. The other products in the Black Leopard Range are all good products in their own right but I just didn’t feel that they gave my skin that twinkle that I desired. I am fussy with my skincare products and there’s no doubt Black Leopard have put a lot of work into creating the range of products they desired.
*The Black Leopard Skincare range was sent to me to try and all thoughts are my own. Black Leopard Skincare is available to buy on Amazon.
So there you have it, some of my current Skincare essentials along with some great newcomers. Let me know some of your essentials & skincare you’d like to get your hands on.
